Arancini Balls: A Delicious and Easy Appetizer or Snack
Arancini balls are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer or snack. They are made with Arborio rice, Parmesan cheese, and your favorite filling, and are then coated in bread crumbs and fried until golden brown and crispy. Arancini balls are perfect for parties, potlucks, or simply to enjoy on your own.
Tips:
- For a richer flavor, use beef or chicken broth instead of vegetable broth.
- If you don’t have ragù, you can substitute another filling, such as ground beef and sausage, or a vegetarian filling, such as roasted vegetables or beans.
- To make sure the arancini balls are cooked through, insert a toothpick into the center of one. If the toothpick comes out clean, the arancini balls are done.
- Arancini balls can be served with a variety of dipping sauces, such as marinara sauce, pesto sauce, or aioli.
Steps
1 Done | Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. |
2 Done | Add the rice and stir to coat in the oil. Cook for 1 minute more. |
3 Done | Add the wine and cook until it has evaporated, about 1 minute. |
4 Done | Add the broth 1 cup at a time, stirring constantly until each cup is absorbed before adding the next. |
5 Done | Once all of the broth has been added, reduce the heat to low and simmer for 15 minutes, or until the rice is cooked through. |
6 Done | Stir in the Parmesan cheese, parsley, salt, and pepper. |
7 Done | Transfer the rice to a large bowl and let it cool slightly. |
8 Done | Once the rice has cooled, divide it into 4 equal portions. |
9 Done | Roll each portion of rice into a ball and press down in the center to create a well. |
10 Done | Fill the well with a slice of mozzarella and a spoonful of ragù. |
11 Done | Close up the ball and roll it in the bread crumbs. |
12 Done | Dip the ball in the beaten egg and then roll it in the flour. |
13 Done | Repeat steps 9-12 with the remaining rice and filling. |
14 Done | Heat the vegetable oil in a large frying pan over medium heat. |
15 Done | Fry the arancini balls for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy. Serve immediately and enjoy! |
